Request copies of certificates
We are only able to issue certificates for births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships which took place in the county of Suffolk.
If you choose the collection service, you will need to wait to be contacted by the Bury St Edmunds office to let you know the certificate is ready for collection.
The collection service is only available from the Bury St Edmunds Registration Office.
Apply for a birth certificate
Apply for a certificate for any birth that took place in Suffolk after July 1837.
The only exception is for babies who were born in Norfolk, who were registered in our Lowestoft office less than a month ago and for babies who were born in Cambridgeshire, who were registered in our Haverhill, Newmarket or Bury St Edmunds offices less than a month ago.
To apply for a copy of a birth certificate you'll need the following information to hand:
- Details of the birth (name, date/year and place of birth)
- Details of the parents
- Your name, address and contact details
- Debit or credit card for payment
- Reason for the request and any other comments to assist with our search
- You can apply for a short or full birth certificate.
Apply for a death certificate
If you're applying for a death certificate, relating to a death registered in the last 14 days, please use the standard death certificate option. All applications relating to a recent death are treated as a priority.
Do not place an order for a certificate until after the death has been registered.
To apply for a copy of a death certificate you'll need the following information to hand:
- Details of the deceased (name, date/year and place of death)
- Your name, address and contact details
- Debit or credit card for payment
- Reason for request and any other comments to assist with our search
Apply for a marriage/civil partnership certificate
Before you apply please have the following information to hand:
- details of the couple (full name of both partners, date and place of marriage/civil partnership)
- your name, address and contact details
- Debit or credit card for payment
- reason for request and any other comments to assist with our search
Your marriage/civil partnership must have taken place before ordering a certificate.
Important note: We are only able to accept applications via this site for births/deaths/marriages/civil partnerships that took place in Suffolk. To avoid additional cost and inconvenience please check this point carefully before proceeding.
